How do you learn a language no one is teaching yet?

Yuliia Vasileva has worked with rope for nearly two decades. She began when almost nothing about shibari could be found: ties were studied from old Japanese photographs, and safety was learned slowly, by trial and error. She kept learning at seminars with masters from Japan and Europe, and founded BONDAGE STUDIO — first in Kharkiv, later in Kyiv, where it has lived on Kyrylivska Street since 2021. Today she teaches, performs and creates events, from Fetish Dance Party in Kyiv to the European Rigger & Model Exchange in Berlin.

More than thirty evenings since 2018, each with its own theme and dress code: a stage for Ukrainian performers, free space to play, and house rules that protect every guest — signal wristbands, taped-over phone cameras, accredited photographers only.
